Soccer-for-Parents.com is a website devoted to educating every soccer parent about the sport their kid(s) love.
On this site you will find information related to coaching youth soccer, especially first-timers, as well as information on soccer terms, soccer rules, soccer positions, resources to help your child succeed, and resources to help YOU succeed as a soccer parent.
Have you been “volunteered” to coach or assist on a youth soccer team?
Congratulations! |
No, really. You are in for the time of your life – in more ways than one.
It isn’t as hard as you might think. The saving grace is that most parents in the U.S. know almost NOTHING about the sport. Thus, having just a little fundamental knowledge of the game puts you ahead of the other 90%. You will actually look like a soccer expert to most parents!
Amazing, isn’t it?
My story is the same. I started as a volunteer coach for my son’s U-8 team and I have coached a team every year since then. On top of that I decided to get certified as a soccer referee in the fall of 2002 to broaden my understanding of the game. It is well worth the time and effort to become a certified referee. I highly recommend it. (Plus getting paid to run around with kids isn’t a bad deal either!)
My youngest son now plays on a competitive club team in Tennessee so as time goes I'll start adding more information on the older ages, elite summer camps, and eventually perhaps the mysterious recruiting process for college soccer.
